Location

The conference will take place at the Marian Smoluchowski Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian University at prof. St. Łojasiewicza 11 Street in Kraków.

Kraków is definitely the most beautiful place in Poland. Its history is more than 1000 years long and our university itself was founded more than 600 years ago. For centuries Kraków was the capital of Poland, the seat of kings, bishops and the university. It attracted great scholars and artists from the whole world. It is their talents and imagination we must thank for the cultural heritage, which reflects the most important trends in European culture. The renaissance Royal Castle at Wawel Hill, the Gothic Saint Mary's Basilica, the historical trade pavilions of the Cloth Hall and the whole Main Market Square area, the former separate Jewish city of Kazimierz, are all places which make a visit to Kraków extremely worthwhile. And these are only few examples.

The city with its nearly 800 000 inhabitants still plays an important administrative role. Kraków is the capital city of the Province of Małopolska. It is abe to connect tradition with modernity. In the special atmosphere of the beautiful streets of the Old Town and Kazimierz you will find not only museums but also shops, galleries, cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Transportation

  • From the Kraków Airport
  • The best choice is to take train to the Main Station, which runs every half an hour between 5 am and 12 am, 7 days a week. The journey takes around 16 minutes. The ticket costs 8 zł (~2 €). The new train station is located near the passenger terminal.

  • From the Main Station (Dworzec Główny)
  • Tram number 52 runs to the end station called Czerwone Maki and stops at the Norymberska stop in the vicinity of the conference place. Timetable from the Main Station.

  • Kraków city transportation (WWW)
The city transport system in Kraków includes buses and trams.
There are two zones of transportation. Zone I "City Cracow" covers almost whole Kraków excluding its suburbs e.g. the airport. All tram lines. Zone II covers suburbs of Kraków (e.g. the airport). All buses with numbers starting with 2 go to the second zone but when one uses such a bus within the zone I, one does not need to cancel the ticket for zone II. All night bus and trams lines within the zone I start with 6 and within the zone II start with 9.
Ticket tariff - the best choice is probably 72-hour ticket (less than 10 €). You have to validate your ticket after boarding the vehicle (only once in case of the short-term tickets).
You can use very convenient Kraków city transportation route finder in order to move around the city.

  • Taxi
Taxi from the Airport to the conference place should costs around 80 zł (~20 €).
